The Cannabinoid Your Brain Loves
Brain health isn’t something that starts mattering at 60. It matters now. Every day your brain deals with stress, inflammation, poor sleep and overstimulation. Every day those things take a toll.
June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Health Awareness Month. And while Alzheimer’s is the extreme end of the spectrum, the conversation about brain health should start long before a diagnosis. It should start with what you’re putting into your system today.
Almost nobody knows about CBG, the cannabinoid that comes before CBD and THC, with some of the strongest neuro-protective research in the entire cannabis plant.
The Rolls-Royce of Cannabinoids
CBD gets the headlines. THC gets the reputation. But neither of them would exist without CBG.
Cannabigerol (CBG) is called the “mother cannabinoid” because it’s the first cannabinoid the cannabis plant produces. As the plant matures, enzymes convert CBG into CBD, THC and every other cannabinoid in the plant.
By the time the plant is harvested, most of the CBG has already been converted into other cannabinoids. That’s why mature plants contain less than 1% CBG. It takes specialized cultivation and precise harvest timing to capture it, which is part of why it’s been called the “Rolls-Royce of cannabinoids”.
But the real reason CBG matters isn’t its rarity. It’s what it does once it reaches your brain.
What CBG Actually Does for Your Brain

Your brain is protected by something called the blood-brain barrier. Think of it as a bouncer. It decides what gets in and what doesn’t. Most compounds get turned away, but CBG gets through.
Once inside, CBG interacts directly with receptors that control inflammation, stress response and neuronal survival. It doesn’t get you high, it’s actually completely non-psychoactive. What it does is protect, reduce inflammation and support the systems your brain depends on to function.
Here’s what the research has found so far on CBGs functionality:
-
It protects neurons. In a study on Huntington’s disease, CBG improved motor function, preserved neurons from toxicity, reduced neuroinflammation and restored the brain’s antioxidant defenses.
-
It protects the blood-brain barrier under stress. When human brain cells were put under stroke-like conditions in the lab, CBG reduced inflammation in astrocytes, the cells that maintain your brain’s protective barrier.
-
It reduced memory loss from restricted blood flow. A 2025 study found that CBG protected the hippocampus (your brain’s memory centre), reduced neuronal loss and enhanced the brain’s ability to form new connections after blood flow was restricted.
- It reduced anxiety in humans without intoxication. In 2024, Washington State University published the first human clinical trial on CBG. A 20mg dose significantly reduced anxiety at 20, 45 and 60 minutes after ingestion. That matters beyond just feeling calmer. Chronic stress and anxiety physically damage your brain over time, shrinking the hippocampus the longer they go unchecked.

You Don’t Need a Diagnosis to Benefit from Neuroprotection
The word “neuroprotection” sounds clinical. Like it’s for people already dealing with something serious. It’s not.
Every time you’re stressed, your brain releases cortisol. Over time, that damages neurons, impairs memory and weakens the part of your brain responsible for focus and decision-making. Every time you sleep badly, your brain can’t clear waste properly. Inflammation builds and cognitive function erodes.
Neuroprotection isn’t about treating disease, it’s about not letting the daily wear and tear accumulate into something bigger. It’s maintenance. And CBG is one of the most promising tools we have for it.
FK+ Focus+: CBG Meets Its Perfect Stack
CBG is powerful on its own. But it’s even more effective when paired with the right compounds.
At FK+ we combine cannabinoids including CBG with two of the most researched natural nootropics on the planet:

-
Lion’s Mane: Stimulates nerve growth factor (NGF), the protein your brain uses to grow and repair neurons. CBG supports BDNF. Lion’s Mane supports NGF. Two different growth factors, same goal.
-
Ginkgo Biloba: Improves blood flow to the brain, getting more oxygen and nutrients where they need to go. CBG protects the brain under restricted blood flow. Ginkgo helps make sure that doesn’t happen in the first place.
Together, it’s a stack designed for cognitive clarity that compounds over time. A slow, steady sharpening of the system that runs everything.
